S.W.A.G. Geocaching Flash Mob 2026
Every year, the S.W.A.G. Geocaching group hosts a Mega Event in Yuma, and one of the centerpiece moments is the flash mob on Main Street! This year? It’s a newspaper affair at the roundabout fountain!
Calling all geocachers: locals, travelers and anyone ready for a few minutes of perfectly timed fun. Step into the “Gateway of the Great Southwest” and join geocachers from all over for a festive burst of laughter, teamwork, and a little theatrical “newsroom drama” in the heart of Historic Downtown Yuma.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, participants will gather near the fountain roundabout on Main Street for a quick, playful Geocaching Flash Mob.

Location: Near the fountain roundabout on Main Street in Historic Downtown Yuma
Start Time: Arrive around 5:15 PM
Flash Mob Time: 5:25–5:30 PM (with a fun finale right after)
What to Bring
- A newspaper (if you can): A box of newspapers will be available for those who can’t obtain one, but they may run out quickly, so bringing your own is encouraged.
- A sense of humor and a playful spirit: This is a lighthearted, theatrical moment—think “fun game,” not “full-contact sport.”
How It Works
This flash mob is designed to be simple, coordinated and fun. Just follow the timing below and blend into the scene until it’s time for the “action.”
5:15 PM: Arrive & Get Into Position
Arrive near the fountain roundabout on Main Street
Find a spot to stand or sit near the fountain
Do not enter the roundabout yet
Please don’t cluster in large groups, but small groups are fine
Make sure you’re close enough to see what’s happening and hear the cues
5:25 PM: The “Extra! Extra!” Moment
Stop talking
Spread out your newspaper and hold it up like you’re reading
Some can sit on curbs, others on benches, others standing
Stay silent and do not enter the roundabout yet
Keep “reading” your newspaper
5:29 PM: The Cue
Whistling music begins
Roll up your newspaper
Calmly enter the roundabout
Face off with someone (find a willing “opponent”)
5:30 PM: Newspaper Sword Fight!
Loud action music starts
Immediately use your rolled newspaper as a sword and begin “sword-fighting”
Be active and theatrical but not brutal
This is meant to look dramatic and silly in the best way
When the Music Stops: The Exit
Stop “fighting” and bow to each other
Whistling music will begin again
Leave the roundabout and find a new spot to sit or stand
Open your paper and pretend to read again until the music stops
Fold your paper and nonchalantly walk away
Make a Night of It Downtown
After the flash mob, stick around Historic Downtown Yuma!
